If I had known that the favour of the Lord comes to a man that is in the posture of rest, I wouldn’t have allowed myself to be pierced with so much sorrows from her. We met on the registration queue on campus and like they do say, it was love at first sight. Although, I had given my life to Jesus, I didn’t allow Him to be the Lord of that part of my life. Charity was a girl you can call the woman of my dreams. She wore a quiet and cool face on the rough queue that had lasted for hours. That attracted me to her and I started a chat with her which led me to a place where I had to run to a counselor who told me things I wished someone had explained to me before I met Charity.
The counselor explained that the concept of marriage is a picture of Jesus and the Church. Jesus found His purpose and pursued it with all His heart and while He was engrossed with this purpose, God brought out His bride from His side. Jesus never set on a journey to locate His bride, He focused on the agenda of His Father and the bride came His way. These words pierced me the more as I have dated two other girls after Charity before I met the counselor. The three relationships ended with the ladies saying the same statement- ‘we are not meant for each other’. The explanation of this statement brought me before the counselor.
He said “every man was made with the same material, but for different purpose. The real human is not the six packs and the broad chests or the big hips and the figure eight, but the real being is defined by what God has called the person to be. The purpose of a man and a woman coming together is the same picture of purpose that brought Jesus and the church together. Jesus started a work and went to heaven, but the work has not finished and in order to finish the work, the Father provided a help-meet; a bride that will run with the same faith, hope and love like Jesus to complete the will of the Father”.
At this point, it became clear to me that I had missed the first step in meeting my help-meet. “Before you are permitted to lead about a lady, you must be on a course that the Father has set before you and the lady must be someone who will run with you with the same faith, hope and love. Jesus never tested any bride, He simply focused on the Father’s mission and the Father, knowing His need before even asking, provided the helper at the right time.”
The counselor concluded by saying that I missed the whole picture of marriage and that is the reason for my sorrow. He asked me to repent and follow the right pattern. Now, am grateful for meeting the counselor and I made the decision to follow the right pattern.
