19th May- 15th Day on Camp
The weather has always been at the mercy of the wind. This morning, the wind brought an unusually cold weather. It affected morning parade as we didn't sing out loud. The skill acquisition class wasn't good either; i slept almost throughout.
After the skill acquisition, we moved towards our hostels, but we were stopped by soldiers. We tried our best to get through them, but the soldiers withstood us and poured water on us. It made me remember my alma mata, but we were not up against old cadets here rather war-trained agile soldiers and before a story the touches happens, i walked back into the hall.
While i was coming back from the kitchen where i got my lunch, heavy rain started and i had to run so as not to get wet. Many people were still outside trying to get their food, but i was inside, enjoying my food(...we couldnt say if the food was yam or porrage or pounded yam without stew).
I was safe after running into the room.
Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
But while i was eating and smiling in my room, something that almost colored the day black was happening outside. The wind that accompanied the rain gave life to every object in its way and so they all began to fly.
Ceilings made of PVC jumped down, windows bursted into laughter, some plastic chairs became like eagles and flew to the high mountains while the others became like arrows and started chasing people. Even the tents all around the camp took to their heels. NCCF tent which is very big and staked deep into the ground was not spared as it tore and went down. Many were injured; it was a diseaster. Everyone abandoned food and ran inside. The soldiers we fought earlier were of great help: they remained in the rain rescuing people who had been hit by flying objects. The hands of people in the clinic were full; someone was even rushed out of the camp in an ambulance.
When the news reached me after the rain, i stopped smiling and ran out of the room to see what was going on. A 20minutes rain had left a mark on several buildings. I went to the location of the NCCF tent to see if efforts were being made to put it up, but the damage was beyond quick repair. While still standing there, the rain began again and the atmosphere changed. We ran as if we were being chased by a suicide bomber.
The market of the Plateau women was not spared. The roofs of many shops ran away. The one that pained me most was the roof of a bookshop! One of the men selling books sadly told me "We dont have this kind of rain". I pray God gives everyone the fortitude to bear the loss and heal all that were wounded.
Whenever rain falls, the cloud covering the sun clears up and everyone can see the sun which will be shinning brighter and brighter gradually.
Rain is a type of the outpouring of the Spirit of God which will reveal God to the whole world(...the day of the Lord). The rain of the Spirit will also be destructive, but it will construct too(...like a two edged sword). The day of the Lord will be like the flood of Noah which destroyed some people and lifted some people up(...those who were in the ark).
NCCF service was full of Life, but cold. Despite wearing a hood and glooves, i was literarily shivering and i was interviewed again(...God have mercy!)
I didn't spend much time on my bed before i slept off due to the weather.
