I sat in Rev’d
and Mrs. Ogundeji‘s sitting room waiting for them to join me. I didn’t know
what to expect. I have kept the entire situation away from them, but I know
that I can’t hide it forever. They must be aware. Rev’d Ogundeji is a gentle
man with a lot of experience in ministry as a Baptist Reverend. He has been my
saving grace out of many tight points; especially when his wife begins her
drama. With him, I know I would be understood, but with her wife also coming
for this meeting, I am absolutely in trouble. Rev’d cannot control her temper
and it has caused many calamities in his ministry. Seun took her Dad’s
character. Humble, understanding and willing to give more room for change.
I prostrated as
they came in. I focused on her dad and ignored her mum’s face. It was her Dad
that spoke first. He asked why I have kept things from them. I defended myself
by saying that I was handling it and I believe that things would come back to
normal. Mrs. Ogundeji giggled. ‘You’re handling it?’ I continued by telling
them I have the word of the LORD about it. Seun is coming back. Rev’d didn’t
agree with me. He scolded me for the first time. ‘You should have said
something’. His wife kept on interrupting his words before he sent her away.
Wow! I have never seen this part of Rev’d before. He told me that they have had
series of meetings with Seun and he doesn’t understand what happened that has
made her resent me so much!
I explained the
entire story from the day she received a call about a seminar. He gave a heavy
sigh, rested his back on the sofa and sobbed! ‘Seun will return’, I urged him.
He looked at me and doubt was written all over his face. ‘Seun doesn’t listen
to us again. She will destroy my ministry’. He cried some more. I felt his
sadness. I kept on telling him that she will come home. About 30 minutes later,
I stepped out of his house to return to my house.
When I moved
close to my car, I saw Mrs. Ogundeji. Her facial expression was sober. Really?
This woman can be sober? I have never seen her like this. What could be wrong?
She moved close to me. A part of me expected a slap. Yes, she disliked me that
much. ‘Please, do your best to bring Seun back to her senses.’ I could only
nod. Rev’d told me that he has given up on Seun. Who else can help? God is my
help.
It’s almost two
years since Seun left. She has changed her number and cut off every contact she
had before. She has become another person entirely. Even the career she fought
me over is no longer on track. Some said she was sacked, others said she resigned.
For me, I will keep praying for her and continue to believe that she will
return. She didn’t send any divorce letter to me, so I believe that I am still
married to Seun. My friends have urged me to move on. I won’t. I will wait.
