This morning, I saw a man trying to catch fish. It was a very interesting scene for me as it is the first time I will be seeing it live. I was fascinated at the way the man caught the fishes because I have never heard of his method.
He held a small green net and a cutlass. He would throw a stone into the river at several points and somehow, this makes the fishes to come to the surface of the water which makes the man to pick them very easily. Wow! It was just very easy.
I was not the only one that was fascinated by the scene, but the other 'spectators' were not convinced at the ease with which the fishes made themselves available at the surface of the water. I just listened as they discussed and made speculations.
A woman said he was using 'something' while most men said he must have poured something into the river that made the fishes to move to the surface because they were not comfortable in the river again. When I heard that, my mind just traveled to where there is no time.
The man poured something into the river to make it uncomfortable for the fishes and when they came up, he grabbed them. Many times, we have behaved like the fishes and entered into the trap of the enemy.
There are a lot of things in the environment today that simply wants to get our attention so that we can be 'grabbed. They seek to shift our gaze from the Lord and just like the water wasn't comfortable for the fishes, the voices in the environment can be very loud that you feel that the only solution is to change your gaze from the LORD.
Examples abound in the bible. A popular one is that of Elimelech that left Bethlehem because of famine. The voice of the famine was so loud that the only reasonable thing to do was to leave for a place that has food. It's not a bad thing he did, after all, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob moves because of famine too, but he missed it.
Peter began to sink when he saw that the wind was boisterous while he was walking on water, the 10 spies couldn't just believe it, the Pharisees were carried away. The evidence they saw in their surrounding was very real.
Isaiah said something that is very profound in chapter 26 verse 3. At this time that it all seems 'hard' and 'everyone' is liberal about some things, make sure you don't compromise. Don't change the standard. Fishes live inside water.
Tomorrow is sunday. Check Psalm 37
