The Jewish new year starts in few hours from this post. They don't follow the Roman calendar of January-December. Today is their first day of the year. They call it Rosh Hashanah, literally meaning the "head [of] the year". The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah, literally "day of shouting or blasting". It is the first of the Jewish High Holy Days.
Christians don't celebrate these days in their literal form. We have the tangibility of these days in Christ. Those days, however point to some dimensions in Christ that you should pay attention to. So, what does God want us to pay attention to as the Jews celebrate Rosh Hashanah?
The day is also know as feast of trumpet. They blow the shofar and Jews gather for a time to reflect on their lives. Rosh Hashanah signifies a day to repent and remember God's judgment. Shofar, Repent, Judgment. There will be a final shofar not blown from the middle East, but from the heavens. Very soon. That shofar will not give room for repent, but judgment.
Rosh Hashanah also prepares the Jews for the feast of Tabernacles (starts October 13) and that is the feast that is currently being fulfilled in the Church today. It's denoted by ingathering (forming of the of fruits of the Spirit) and harvest (making disciples of all nations or preaching the gospel of the kingdom) and this is what will round up the age.
So, what should you do? Reflect on yourself. How aligned are you with God's instructions to you? How obedient have you been? Is Jesus your savior alone and not Lord? Jews would greet themselves today with "Shana Tova" which means "May your name be in the book of life".
