Topic: Watch and Pray (2)
Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch and be sober.
Last week, I shared how that the coming of Jesus will only be a shock to those who have not been watching and praying. The parable of the 10 virgins showed that there was a watcher who let out the cry for the virgins to wake up from their slumber when the bridegroom was close.
Simeon and Anna were about the first set of individuals who could identify Jesus as the messiah even when he was still a baby because they have been watching and praying in the temple.
In the text for this week, Paul asserts to the Thessalonian church that the coming of Jesus should not catch us as a thief in the night, so he admonished that we should watch and be sober. This simply means that we must always be at alert. It is not out of uncertainty. Believers must be able to discern the coming of Jesus.
Pay attention to world events as they fulfill the biblical prophecies of the last days. When you see how much has been fulfilled and how much is left, it will make you let go of some pursuits. It will radicalize you completely.
I urge you to make watching and praying a habit. The coming of our LORD is truly closer than we think.
Have a great week
