Topic: The Elisha Generation
Text: 2 Kings 2:1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
We live in a time where the Lord is raising many sons to replace the generals of the previous generation. The men who served the Lord with all their hearts and attained great heights in God are gradually leaving this realm and they are leaving behind a great gap, but God, in His infinite wisdom has made their mantles available for the generation that is coming right behind them.
God is a generational God; His works always transcend a generation and that is why He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His works are beyond what a generation can handle. The transfer of mantles is one of the doctrines of Christ mentioned in Hebrews chapter 6 (laying on of hands) and it is meant to transfer giftings. We see it portrayed in the ministry of Timothy too.
The transfer of mantles happened between Elijah and Elisha and this particular one point to a prophetic type and shadow for our fathers and our generation. In recent times, several men that played a key role in the move of God in the last century are going to meet with the Lord. Paul Cain slept this month, Billy Graham's passing is just about a year old. T.L. Osbourne, Bob Jones have all left in the last 5 years. As these men are leaving, they are being replaced by a people that will carry their anointing in blisters which means that no one can claim monopoly of their grace in God.
An American Pastor had a dream when Billy Graham passed on and he saw how the mantle of Billy broke into several thousand pieces and landed on many young people. The mantles of men of God that have passed on are still available for our generation to pick up and walk in.
Elisha was the only person who was rightly positioned to receive the mantle of Elijah despite him not being the only student in the school of prophet. If we will be part of this Elisha generation that will be rightly positioned to receive the mantles of these men, we must learn how Elisha did it. I will highlight some of the lessons we need to learn by the grace and mercy of God.
I urge you to pay attention to the workings on God in our generation. You should be a partaker and not a spectator.
