I believe that I have been able to establish to you what the Joel Army is, so I will move on to explain what the duty of this army will be in the last days.
A very fascinating description of this army is what Prophet Joel mentions in the first sentence of the third verse of chapter two. I consider it fascinating because I have never seen any description like that in the bible used for a group of people. (Let me know if you have found any).
It says that fire burns in front of them and a flame burns behind them. The temperature around these soldiers must be life threatening. Physically, no man can survive this kind of condition. Spiritually, it also has a connotation that fascinates.
Fire was first mentioned in the bible when God wanted to judge Sodom and Gomorrah. It must have existed before that time, but the law of first mention in interpreting the bible certifies that fire is an instrument for judgment. This is consistent from the old testament to the new testament.
Fire, however is also an instrument for redemption as seen in several bible verses where the LORD used fire as a tool to refine and purify. Fire, thus has a two fold purpose according to the bible and they are in the righteousness and the justice of God.
This is significant because Righteousness and Justice are the two pillars of the earth that the LORD seeks to set in place as we close this age. To carry out this purpose, the LORD in His confounding wisdom has earmarked a group of people that will be clothed in fire to do this- the Joel Army.
God will use the fire around this army to refine the army themselves and also bring justice into the earth. The judgment that Paul spoke about in 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 will begin to take place in this age through the actions of this army. Structures that are made of gold, silver and precious stones will become better and stronger while structures made of wood, hay and stubble will begin to crumble.
It's just like the house of Saul becoming weaker and the house of David getting stronger.
Joel said nothing will escape this fire. The fire of the Joel Army is not a physical burning of oxygen, but the heat of intercession. As the army prays and groans in the Spirit, the earth will be heated up and everything on the surface of the earth will feel this fires!
Pastor Olubi Johnson, a Nigerian prophet with a deep insight into the plans of God for the last days once said "it's not my fault that my fires of intercession is burning you, it's because of the material you are made up of". The fires will grow to a point that territories that have been sealed against the gospel will be broken up!
Many things that we know to produce results will begin to fail and wither, while things that we may not pay attention to will be refined by this same fire and bring out a beauty that we never knew existed.
This is what will lead to the great harvest of the end times, separate the believers and make us the kind of church prophesied by Isaiah in the second chapter of his writings.
Sounds exciting right? There is more to this army.
