My friend, I hope you have been able to pick up something from the lessons that I have shared concerning my experience in the last seven years. This is the last of the series before I move on to something quite interesting. This time I want to share with you how much books have helped me to chart my course in God.
I became fully exposed to books when I became the librarian of my fellowship in 200L. I had to manage a lot of books and to be effective in the work, I needed to know something about the books in my care. I started reading books very much when I was in 200L, but I had read several books before that time.
The first book I read after I became born again was a book written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. I can't remember the title now. I also read a book written by an alumnus of OAU about the Holy Spirit. One afternoon, I wanted to buy a KJV bible when I saw a book that seemed to be the answer to my prayer. The title is "How to be led by the Spirit of God" by Kenneth Hagin.
I became interested in Kenneth Hagin's book afterwards. Towards the end of my first year in school, I was given an assignment to read Believers' Authority. My interest in books was developing so when I became the librarian, it was like a dream come true.
The president of my fellowship at that time was also a lover of books. He introduced me to several authors. A very key one I can't forget is Francis Frangipane. His book on The Three Battlegrounds opened my eyes to a lot.
Books helps us to stand on the shoulders of the writer so that we can see farther and further. It is always a privilege to read from a sound author. Revelations that it took them several years to come by, they give it out in a book and we grab it. Learn to make sacrifices for your spiritual growth. I have decided to go hungry severally just to buy a book.
In 300L, the Lord asked me to compile soft copies of books for my fellowship and I was able to get about 800 books from different authors. I came across several authors like Kelly Varner, Watchman Nee, Rick Joyner, E.M.Bounds, John Bunyan, Andrew Murray etc. Today, my richest asset are my books.
My books are more expensive than my clothes and shoes put together. I am glad. Wisdom has built her house and she calls. Heed the call to become wise.
During my NYSC days, books were my greatest gifts I got from the entire year. I came back home with a carton of books I had bought from Jos. The woman that sells books to us in Jos knew me as a usual customer. She really encouraged me to read more because she seems to know what is written in all the books she is selling.
There is a post on this blog that talks about 25 books I hope you read. Read books; they will give you an advantage to grow faster and better. Reading a book is like listening to the author sit before you and speak. It's always an interesting one.
As much as I encourage you to be desperate for knowledge, be careful. Don't eat poison. Find out from men of integrity around you about an author before you read it.
At every point in time, there must be a book that you're reading.
