I had to attend a wedding recently because I had no choice. It's all those far away relatives that would not allow anybody to miss their son's day of joy. My reluctant self sat in an isolated place where I had a broad view of the event including where they were dishing out food. I voted for the self acclaimed best African specie of Jollof.
The wedding was really glamorous and the couple must be some talented dancers. The relatives were also not left out in the rhythmic hullabaloo that filled the entire stage.
All the while, I saw a man of God I could recognize. He sat quietly just as I was sitting. He seemed to be concerned about something I really couldn't figure out quickly.
After a while, I heard the servers complaining that the wine has finished! I didn't want to eavesdrop, but the next statement caught my attention. A woman said: "Go and ask the man of God sitting over there to give you the new wine." He said this pointing at the man of God I had recognized earlier.
I wondered on what could be the correlation between the man of God and wine of a wedding. I quickly quieted my thoughts to listen more to the conversation. A man that was also one of the servers said "there is no need to contact the man of God. I can quickly make a wine for you that will look just like the old wine".
The suggestion seemed very wise to those that heard it, so they agreed and he made a wine for them that seemed just like the old wine. They served it and those on the stage who were so engrossed with the music did not bother to check if the wine was actually up to standard, they simply drank it.
My curiosity increased when I saw that the man of God has stood up and about to leave. I ran to Him and introduced myself as one of the persons that met Him in Obafemi Awolowo University. He was very glad to see me.
I asked why He was leaving since the wedding is still very much going on, He said that the state of the wedding is not right and He has to leave because He would not be a part of such thing.
I pressed further to find out what He meant by the wedding not being in the right shape. He said that the wine they were drinking is not up to standard as they made a sample of the old wine, but they didn't get the ingredients accurately.
He said that the servers were meant to ask Him for the new wine, but instead they made a pattern of wine for themselves and they feasted on it. As the man of God walked away, I hastily followed Him.
I am not of them that draw back unto perdition, but I am of them that believe in the saving of the soul. May God grant you understanding, amen.
