The unity of the church in the last days is not going to be seen in similarities in mode of worship or any outward appearance. It will be seen in the formation of the spiritual substance that will lead to the outpouring of the glory of God in this last days.
A lot of people may be looking at the current form of the church and wonder if Jesus can actually make any sense out of the diversity in the present day church. The work of the Spirit in the church in this times is not through philosophy and empty deceit, not according to the tradition of men, not according to the basic principles of the world, but according to Christ.
The prayer of Paul for the Galatian church is what the Spirit of God is working out in the church at this time- 'My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you,'
The formation of Christ is the goal of the Spirit of God in the church and this is happening is little ways in every believer that is yielding to the in-workings of the Spirit. As you yield, the substance of Christ is formed within you and as many yield, we have more substance of Christ in the church.
This formation is happening in every denomination, in every tribe, tongue and kindred. It is when this formation has grown to a critical mass that we will have the final outpouring of the last days that will usher in the glory of God. This is what will lead to 'the gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.'
The critical mass is not going to involve everyone, but a few typified in scripture as the 120. The 120 is not a literal 120 people, but a picture of a people pressing towards perfection, a people who are journeying into the holy of holies, a people who have been saved, are being saved and pressing in to be saved.
This critical mass are described by Paul to the Ephesian church as a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
It is therefore a season of cleansing, of purification, a season of becoming. The system of purification was portrayed in the book of Esther- six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women. Six is the number of man. Man needs oil of myrrh, man needs the sweet odours.
So, as this formation is taking place in hearts in different places, their hearts are being knit together into one; into His. This is the true unity of the church. So, irrespective of the worship mode, dress pattern, language and meeting times, the unity is going on at the level where God wants it. The question now should be are you part of the critical mass being united?
