Matthew 24:1-2 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not [one] stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
Matthew 24 is one of the profound chapters in the gospels that gives an account of what to expect in the last days. The chapter also explains the arrangement of events that will lead to the close of this age.
The chapter begins with the disciples of Jesus admiring the temple in Jerusalem, but to their surprise, Jesus told them that the temple would be destroyed so much that one stone will not be placed on another.
To a Jew, this is a very offensive statement because they consider their temple a sacred building where God dwells. What they did not know is that Jesus was not just referring to the physical temple, but what referring to Himself.
70 years later, the temple was truly destroyed by the Romans, but Jesus wanted then to see another way of serving the living God. He wanted them to see that the current way of serving God would be jettisoned and a new and loving way would be enacted.
It is important that we know that this is also going on in the church today. There is a breaking down of a temple and the building of a temple that is going on in the church today. Paul tells us in Hebrews that everything we have on the earth will be shaken to give room for the kingdom that cannot be shaken.
This shaking will be communal and also individual. God is going to destroy everything that does not align with the present truth and establish what aligns with Him. Ministries in this last days must reexamine their practices and ensure that they fit in to the spiritual temple of Jesus.
There are practices today in the church that will not survive this shakings. Already, we are seeing this in a measure, but as we approach perfection depicted by the 70 years that the Romans destroyed the physical temple in Jerusalem, the church will also experience a purging.
Some of the outcries and arguments on the social media in recent years have made many to reexamine their practices as a ministry. This will increase in the coming days and those who insist on their ways will be completely destroyed while those who repent and change their ways will have a part in the temple.
