Hearing God is an ability that every believer longs for, but very few have. People get interested whenever they hear anyone sharing a formula about hearing God. As much as we long to hear God, we may just be blocking our ears with a little thing.
I got my breakthrough in this when I read Romans 12:6 in NLT version. It dawned on me that my hearing God is based on how much I believe that it is God that is speaking to me. So, I began to take the impressions in my heart seriously, believing that it is God that put the impression there.
Since then, I have seen a tremendous growth in how much I hear God. Often times, we look for God in the spectacular things like prophecy, dream, vision, trance or through another christian. There is nothing wrong with all that, but you must know that the still small voice within you carry a lot of weight.
We often discard and disobey the still small voice and we long to have dreams. That's wrong. You don't have to sleep before God can speak to you. The weight of inner witness and/or still small voice is mighty and we must treat it as heavily as we treat prophecy or dream.
I once read a Rick Warren's material on Hearing God where he confessed that he still have issues sometimes about deciphering whether it is God that is speaking to him or not. Keith Moore, in his own material about this same topic said that the more you yield to the still small voice, the more you will be hearing the voice and the more you will have more confidence that your spiritual ears are opened.
I urge you to begin to take the impressions of your heart seriously. Don't trivialize it. God speaks!
